A SERIES of cold fronts will cause a spell of wintry weather in Orange during the final week of May, with snow likely to fall, especially on the higher ground around Mount Canobolas.

Three or four cold fronts will pass over the nation's south-eastern states between Friday and Wednesday next week.
The procession of fronts will bring showers and blustery winds, with the air tipped to be cold enough for snow to fall from Sunday into at least the first half of next week.
According to www.weatherzone.com.au, between two and five centimetres of snow will fall to an altitude of 1200 metres on Monday and Tuesday, between five and 10 centimetres to an altitude of 1100 metres on Wednesday, and up to 20 centimetres to an altitude of 900 metres on Thursday.
Orange's altitude is listed at 862 metres, with Mount Canobolas' summit at 1395 metres.
The forecast comes 10 days after Cabonne Council decided to close the access roads to the summit of Mount Canobolas due to "snow and ice" near the top of the mountain.
