NSW RFS captain Geoff Selwood said the vehicle was totally destroyed by the fire, with the blaze also igniting some nearby grass, which was promptly extinguished by emergency service crews.
The incident occurred hours before police told the Central Western Daily they were close to making arrests over the spate of car fires in the city.
Central West Police District commander Superintendent Chris Taylor said there had been 44 cars set alight in Orange this year, most of them stolen.
"We think it won't be too long before we are able to make some arrests in relation to them," he said on Monday.
