Students from 74 schools tested their ability to talk in front of an audience, with 270 students from years three to 12 participating.
Chairperson of the CWA public speaking committee Phyllis Wheeler said its an opportunity for students from small schools to compete against the bigger schools.
"It helps them to get out and speak in front of strangers later on," Mrs Wheeler said.
Orange Public School and Orange East Public were among the local primaries to compete.
Orange High School, Kinross Wolaroi School and James Sheahan represented Orange's high schools.
The winning student will then compete in the Interschool competition in Narromine.
The students wrote and delivered speeches on diverse topics which included Australia's water shortage and the stolen generations.
