The Ploughmans Wetlands Care Group, with Orange City Council, has applied for a $30,000 grant under the My Community Government Grant scheme, to construct a boardwalk over the main wetland dam wall.
Spokesman Neil Jones said it would complete an all-weather walking and cycle loop track around the wetland area.
The group has recently undertaken work to plant trees and shrubs in the area.
Increasing numbers of local residents and visitors are using the pathways for exercise.

"Despite the wet and cold conditions, a small group of committee members planted over 80 native plants under the direction of Bill Josh of Habitat Connect and Orange City Council," he said.
"The commitment of the local community to this day, and to recent similar planting days demonstrates what can be achieved when community and Council work together," he said.
Mr Jones said about 200 native grasses, shrubs and trees have been planted this year.
"This will add greatly to existing plantings, and greatly enhance the biodiversity of the wetland," he said.
The Wetlands Care Group Committee meets each month with council staff to discuss and plan improvements.
"Increasing numbers of local residents and visitors are using the pathways for exercise, dog walking or simply enjoying the bird life and flowering native plants," he said.
"It's a wonderful asset that should be protected and valued by our community."
