Mr Cooke said the Shooters Fishers and Farmers had not been able to translate state success to the federal election.

According to vote counting on Sunday the SFF had received 2.4 per cent of the vote, well down on the 13 per cent Mr Cooke said they would need.

The six NSW seats available appear to have all gone to the major parties and The Greens.

Mr Cooke said while there was a still a lot of votes to be counted and preferences allocated the SFF did not have enough votes to challenge for the sixth seat.

"We really did need a lot of votes. We needed about 13 per cent," he said.

"We are contending with a range of cross-bench parties.

"Maybe [voters] don't see us federally as they do in the state."

Mr Cooke said it was not clear why that had happened when the party's key issues were largely the same for both levels of government.

However, he said the SFF Senate vote was up on the last election."
