Mr Connell has a farming background and was appointed to fill the chairman's role for a three-year term.
He will replace outgoing chairman Dan Toohey who is stepping down from four years at the helm.
I think field days are important to our region, they bring in money and give farmers an opportunity to see newly released machinery all in one place as well as the latest technology in the livestock industries.

"My goals during my chairmanship are to keep improving the management of the land around the ANFD exhibition site and to see the site used all year round for workshops, conference, training, machinery demonstrations and livestock trial," Mr Connell said.
Mr Connell has been involved with the ANFD since 2012 and became cattle chairman in 2013.
"I think field days are important to our region, they bring in money and give farmers an opportunity to see newly released machinery all in one place as well as the latest technology in the livestock industries," he said.
"Our purpose built facility boasts sealed roads, disabled access, well grassed sites, full sanitary facilities, electricity to most sites, onsite security, full catering and bar facilities all in a pleasant bush land setting, with onsite staff to help you create the best exhibition possible and to ensure you have a successful field day."
He and and his family moved to Panuara from Yass in 1989 and after selling the farm at Panuara in 2013 he purchased a few hectares close to the Borenore site.
The Australian National Field Days is held at Borenore each October.
