It was held over five consecutive days May 6-10 and they played many matches against students from all over the state which included 130 boys and girls.
Inverell Tennis Association turned on the wonderful hospitality and also the great weather.
Over the course of the week, the Championships benefited from the great support of Tennis NSW who have assisted in running development programs at local schools and they also helped run the tournament.
Our juniors who were successful in qualifying for the Western team were OPS' Stephanie Gersbach and Angus McDonald along with Calare's Billy Rollin and Millthorpe's Jake Hurst.
Although unlucky not to gain a placing in the tournament, our juniors played very well, showed true sportsmanship and gained plenty of experience.
Congratulations to Mackillop who won the boys' event and placed second in the girls', therefore taking out the overall title.
Sydney West were runners up by also winning the girls' overall event. Best of luck to this, our new NSW team who will travel to Perth in October for the School Sport Australia Championships.
It continues with more tennis for our juniors, as they will be travelling over to Parkes this Sunday for the JDS tournament. We wish them all safe travels and a great days' tennis.
The Winter Warmers Comp held their third round on Wednesday night. It was a lovely autumn night and it didn't take long to warm up.
Numbers were great and we needed to turn more lights on the courts.
Winners this week were the pairings of Jo Kingham and Max Powell with three sets/23 games, second was Rod Buesnel and Tania Rusden on three sets/19 games and a tie for third spot was between Anthony Miklich and Elizabeth Grady and Joanne Daffern and Daniel Kozul , both on two sets/13 games.
On the Social scene, the ladies had an enjoyable hit as always this Thursday. Play starts at 9am if anyone would like to come along. Same goes for the regular Mixed Social every Sunday from 1.30pm. All players are most welcome.
