Officers from the Central West Police District responded to reports of a vehicle stolen during a break and enter on Caroline Street at 7.50am on Wednesday.
The police found the 2016 Toyota Corolla sedan alight in the backyard of a house on Sir Neville Howse Place approximately 30 minutes later.
Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Grassick said the car was driven into the un-fenced backyard from Cootes Park, with police responding prior to the occupants becoming aware of the blaze.
Inspector Grassick said the car was in close proximity to a number of vehicles which have previously been burned out in Orange.
He said the offence is believed to be linked to police's ongoing investigations into the spate of offences.
