Police received several calls about a Mitsubishi Lancer that was driving in Byng Street on February 12 at 11.45pm and when police arrived they saw it turn south on William Street.
The car continued to swerve left to right and when it turned onto Bathurst Road the driver took the corner wide at Edward Street before stopping at the Kite Street intersection.
Police breath tested the driver, Daniel Gersbach, 38, of Adina Crescent, who was the holder of a P2 licence and he returned a reading of 0.180 on analysis. He said he had three glasses of port between 9.30pm and 11pm.
Gersbach appeared in Orange Local Court on Monday and was given a 12-month community correction order with 50 hours of community service, a six-month driving disqualification and a 24-month interlock order.
Magistrate David Day said he took into account the reading and manner of driving for the sentence.
"His manner of driving drew police attention to him," Mr Day said.
