That was the main takeaway for the Orange Eagles after the side suffered another loss in the Spalding Waratah League Division 1 Men's competition, going down 94-73 to Shoalhaven.
The Tigers have proven one of the top sides so far in D1M's 2019 season, and showed why they've only dropped two games while taking on the Eagles on their home court at Sir Neville Howse Stadium on Saturday night.
While the Eagles managed to start strongly and go into the second half two points up, coach Jamahl Zegzula said it was "a bit disappointing" to let the lead slip, and then blow out to such a big loss.
I think we need to remember that we can compete, we weren't at our best in the last half of that game.
- Jamahl Zegzula
It's not the first time the Eagles have let go of an early lead this season, but Zegzula said foul trouble was the main culprit as well as Shoalhaven - missing one of their best players in William Ozolins.
Shoalhaven were able to limit the influence of the Eagles' point guard Kobe Mansell, who's been raining points so far this season, keeping him to just 14 points on Saturday night, with skipper Mitch Selwood not faring much better on 18.
In fact, only three players - Murray Robotham the other - were able to hit double figures in the points tally on Saturday, while Shoalhaven's starting five all finished with double-figure points with Alex Brown leading the way with 23.
The Eagles ran into foul trouble, with Andrew Manios and Clarry Annis-Brown both falling victim to the referee whistles too many times, leaving the side in a precarious position - not for the first time this season.
Zegzula said Manios stepped up early but "got in foul trouble early" but stepped up and took control of transitions, while Murray Robotham and Ben Gundry both played crucial roles, but unfortunately couldn't get the side over the line.
"It was a bit unfortunate," Zegzula said of the foul trouble.
"I think we need to remember that we can compete, we weren't at our best in the last half of that game."
However, the side has the chance to rally this week, with familiarity building in the side after their second win of the season last start and their next match coming up against a side they've already beaten in the Dubbo Rams.
"This will be the first game against a side we've already played and with Dubbo's history this year and how we went in round one hopefully we can nab another win," Zegzula said.
However, they're still likely to be without young centre Zak Symons, who after making one return game for the Eagles has been sidelined with an ankle injury.
