According to figures at www.weatherzone.com.au, which gets its data from the Bureau of Meteorology's weather station at Orange Regional Airport, 12.2 millimetres of rain fell in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday.
That downpour took May's rainfall total to 61 millimetres, exceeding the 1996-2017 average of 50.5 millimetres with more than half of the month remaining.
It also brought with it the thick cloud of fog which descended on the city before lifting late on Saturday morning.
Friday and Saturday were also unseasonably cold, with the respective maximum temperatures of 8.7 and 7.6 degrees Celsius both more than five degrees colder than May's standard fare.
According to weatherzone's seven-day forecast the rest of the week will be chilly and dry, with the predicted maximum temperatures ranging from 15-17 degrees, and no rain in sight.
