According to police, Neville Edward Atkinson, 56, of Northstoke Way, mentioned that he smoked cannabis and had some in his car, when he was talking to the police on February 27.
Police found the cannabis in resealable plastic bags and a round plastic tub inside a portable cooler.
Atkinson said there were about "two ounces", close to 57 grams, and he paid $600 for recreational use while on holidays.
He represented himself in Orange Local Court where magistrate David Day fined him $660.
"As it stands possessing cannabis is a criminal offence as you well know because you've been doing this for a long time," Mr Day said.
