With Molong Creek Dam falling to one of its lowest levels in many years, level four water restrictions - which prohibit all external watering - are likely to be implemented in Molong in May.
The level of the dam, which provides the town's water supply, has dropped to 43.6 per cent and is approaching its lowest level since 2001, when it fell to of 37 per cent.
With no flows in Molong Creek, there have been no measurable inflows into the dam, which means water being used in Molong is not being replaced.
Cabonne Council is calling on all residents to conserve water as much as they can, and will continue to monitor water use to determine when tighter water restrictions will be implemented.
Substantial rain is needed in the catchment to increase the level of water in Molong Creek Dam, but flows into Molong Creek will not improve greatly until Lake Canobolas, which is upstream of the dam, begins to overflow.
Anyone seeking further information is urged to contact Cabonne Council's Engineering Department on 6390 7100.
