Although they've not technically won a game yet in 2019 the blue and golds jumped into fourth spot after Saturday's second round thanks to a registration error from Bathurst Souths.
The two blues held on for a 2-1 victory over the Orange side at Cooke Hockey Complex on Saturday but because they fielded an unregistered player that result was declared void by the competition's governing body and flipped to a 5-nil, forfeit win in favour of Ex-Services.
With those four competitions points and the differential boost it brings, Ex-Services jump up to fourth.
They now trail the undefeated Lithgow Panthers, Bathurst St Pat's and CYMS by four points, and are the same margin clear of fifth-placed Confederates.
Although it's come by default Ex-Services have shown enough in their opening two performances to suggest they can take the opportunity with both hands, and assistant coach Daryl Kennewell certainly said they'll be looking to, holding onto that top four spot is now their goal.
They do have a tough run in the coming weeks but in Saturday's local derby against Confederates they are expected to welcome back almost half a dozen of their stars who didn't play against Souths.
