A 100 metre exclusion zone has now been set up around a gas leak in Eglinton with firefighters working to ensure the substance does not ignite.
The natural gas leak occurred outside a home at 62 Cottonwood Drive just after 7am on Monday with water and gas leaking from the ground.
NSW Rural Fire Service Chifley/Lithgow Team operational officer Brett Taylor said emergency crews will remain on scene to ensure the gas is not ignited.

"Because natural gas is lighter than air it goes straight up and dissipates into the air," he said.
"It could be a fire risk if there was an ignition point."
No evacuation has been ordered, however, those living nearby have been asked to stay indoors until the leak is repaired.

Mr Taylor said the gas company is on scene and waiting for a back hoe to arrive so the gas pipe could be accessed.
He expects the gas leak will continue for a matter of hours as crews work to make necessary repairs.
At this early stage, crews said a water leak may have caused the gas line to rupture.
"We believe the water main has leaked and caused the gas pipe to fracture," Mr Taylor said.
A GAS leak in Eglinton has resulted in an emergency call out with residents and motorists asked to avoid the area.
Multiple triple-0 calls were received just after 7am Monday morning to the site on Cottonwood Drive, near the corner of Hollyhock Place.
Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Steven Evans said the incident prompted a multi-agency response.
"At 7.20am we were called to a gas leak in Eglinton and we've got two Fire and Rescue NSW appliances on scene and the RFS has been notified," he said.
"The gas company is currently on scent to turn off the gas."
Inspector Evans said at this stage the cause of the gas leak was unknown.
"People should avoid the area with this going on," he said.
More to come.
