Officers from the Central West Police District were called to the corner of Gona and Moresby Street at 3:30am on Friday, where a car had been set alight.
The unregistered green Hyundai Excel had been parked in the driveway of a Moresby Street home.
Police spoke to the owner of the vehicle, who said she had noticed the vehicle missing that evening - they canvassed the area and the investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday evening, police attended a car fire on Huntley Road, following a report from a resident of a loud bang just after 8pm.
The blaze was extinguished, but not before destroying the unregistered 2010 Great Wall four-wheel drive.

In a third incident, a burnt-out car was abandoned near the PCYC, although police were unable to provide any details.
The spate of car theft and arson in the first half of 2019 followed on from a wave of similar crime towards the end of last year, with almost 10 vehicles stolen and torched in December alone.
Two vehicles were torched in 24 hours in the second week of April, which brought the tally to 16 for this year.
This is not the first time Orange police have targeted car fire crime, with four men arrested in January last year following the torching of more than 30 vehicles in the six months prior.
Orange Police urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
