Police were called to Orange Health Service in the early hours of Sunday morning after the 30-year-old man presented to hospital staff with a gunshot wound to his left knee.

The man told police he had been walking down Summer Street East at around midnight when he was shot by a man he didn't know.

The man was due to undergo surgery on Sunday and inquiries into the incident are continuing.

He was released from hospital on Monday.

Police have asked for anyone with information on the shooting to call 1800 333 000.

Several infringements were handed out over the Easter long weekend, with police conducting around 2000 random breath tests across the Central West Police District.

A female driver has had her licence suspended after blowing 0.12 about 9.45pm on Garema Road on Friday evening.

A man will face charges after being caught doing 171 km/h on the Mitchell Highway on Friday.

The 47-year-old driver was caught by Orange highway patrol in the 100km/h zone at 12:38pm, about 10 kilometers west of Orange.

Across the district, 39 speeding tickets were handed out across the Easter long weekend, as part of Operation Tortoise.

There was 52 other infringements handed out for offences which included driving an unregistered vehicle and not wearing a seatbelt.

Police district Chief Inspector Dave Harvey said the operation would continue on Monday in a bid to see drivers return safely from the Easter break.

He said further operations would continue throughout the school holidays targeting drink driving, fatigue and distracted driving, such as mobile phone use.
