As many of us who have children will tell you, there are plenty of young people handing over an Easter wish list which contains things far more expensive than a couple of chocolate Easter eggs.
While Easter used to be about family gatherings, visits to church and a time to reflect,the times have certainly changed.
In fact there would be many children who no nothing about the Easter traditions of years gone by.
As our columnist Sister Mary Trainer reminded us this week amidst all the holiday spirit, the Royal Easter Show, the family reunions, the school term break, the get togethers and rest and relaxation, maybe we can take a moment to pause and reflect on the true significance of Easter ....
Maybe rather than encouraging more materialism and consumerism we should be looking at our relationships with each other and working on giving each other the gifts of kindness, love and forgiveness.
