A Day on the Green promoters, Roundhouse Entertainment, have been working with Orange City Council to visit prospective winery venues around Orange over the past few months.

Mayor Reg Kidd said he believed plans were well progressed, and it is understood an event is possible as early as November this year.

"I would hope, fingers crossed, there is an announcement imminent," he said.

"They have narrowed it down to three [wineries] and they are certainly reasonably close to the centre of Orange."

Cr Kidd said separate groups of logistics and music representatives from the promoters had visited Orange.

"They spent a lot of time going around various venues. We had a look around with them," he said.

Cr Kidd said he could not reveal which winery was likely to host the event, however he said the venue needed to have plenty of space plus access for buses and parking.

Mudgee hosted 20 A Day on the Green concerts until 2018 when the promoters stopped, citing financial losses and smaller crowds.

Orange360 tourism general manager Caddie Marshall said the promoters wanted a new venue.

"They see Orange as the obvious next destination. They have been working with Orange City Council to find a venue," she said.

Ms Marshall said they needed to avoid dates clashing with existing festivals and major events in Orange where accommodation would be booked out.

The official website says the concerts are held from October to March.

Ms Marshall said the promoters needed to co-ordinate with musicians' touring schedules to get the best possible acts top the city.

Acts including Robbie Williams, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, The Pretenders and Australian artists John Farnham and Daryl Braithwaite have played A Day on the Green concerts at 18 Australian wineries and outdoor venues since 2001.

The promoters declined to comment.
