Dale Campbell said his desire to help had been "brewing for a while", and so he decided to extend an online offer to teach guitar for free to those in the grips of a struggle with mental health issues.
"I've been thinking about this for a long time. There's a lot of suicide around and I don't like it, it's not good," Mr Campbell said.
There's been stages in my life where I've nearly taken my own life. I want to make a difference.

He said plenty of people had reached out to take up the offer of lessons, showing the appeal of music as a legitimate healing technique.
"I've had a genuine interest in music all my life and I guess it's pushed me in a different direction," he said.
Like so many other people, Mr Campbell has grappled with mental illness, and said he's been in a position where he considered ending his own life.
"There's been stages in my life where I've nearly taken my own life. I want to make a difference, I want kids to see there's more to life than that," he said.
"I got divorced five or six years ago and that was a point where I nearly did take my own life.
"I didn't think I'd play a massive role in my children's lives after I left and on the contrary, I taught my son to play guitar over two years. He's nearly better than me and I've been playing for 33 years."
I've had a genuine interest in music all my life and I guess it's pushed me in a different direction.

Mr Campbell is hoping reaching out can help change lives for the better.
"Having been through it myself, there's more to life than death," he said.
"Everyone will face a hard period in their life ... there's always another way and there's more to life than the problems you're facing at that moment."
