A PERSON died when a car crashed and caught fire on the Mitchell Highway on Monday morning, authorities have confirmed.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said paramedics found the driver involved in the single-vehicle incident dead when they arrived at the scene, near Eulomongo Creek south of Dubbo, at about 11.30am.
Personnel from the Crash Investigation Unit, emergency services and Roads and Maritime Services were on the scene.

The Mitchell Highway was closed in both directions for around four hours while firefighters fought to extinguish the car fire and police and crash investigators secured the scene.
The road reopened around 4pm.
The incident follows a horror weekend on the same stretch of road where two men died in a two-vehicle crash.
Shortly before 10pm on Saturday on police attended the scene of the crash on the Mitchell Highway at Wongarbon, about 20 kilometres south-east of Dubbo.

Police believe a Toyota HiLux utility being driven by a 35-year-old man, and with a 29-year-old passenger, lost control and rolled a number of times, before coming to rest.
A second vehicle, a Toyota Landcruiser utility driven by a 19-year-old man, hit the stationary vehicle.
Both men inside the first car died at the scene, while the driver of the second vehicle was uninjured. The 19-year-old man was conveyed to hospital for mandatory drug and urine tests.
Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
