But it was also a chance for council staff from Orange, Dubbo and Singleton to get their hands dirty.
Eight teams faced off in a two-day competition on who could tap an iron water main the fastest - tapping refers to creating a watertight connection to a water main, which can then be connected to a house.
Orange's Daniel Eassie and Adam Whitely won with a time of four minutes, 48 seconds.
A donation to be made to a charity of the pair's choice.
