The students were among 34 teams which represented 17 schools from the western part of the state, including the two Kinross Wolaroi School campuses, James Sheahan Catholic High School and Orange High School.
OPS went up against several high school teams in the international competition designed to test their knowledge of literature.
Gabby Gregory, Edon O'Donnell, Xanthe Huxtable and Abigail Kiely team excelled, finishing as the top primary school and third best team in the regional heat at Kinross.
Kids Lit Quiz organiser Nicole Deans said OPS just missed out in competing in the nationals.
"They did brilliantly on the day and will be a forced to be reckoned with in the future," she said.
Blue Mountains Grammar Secondary School and MacKillop College Bathurst will represent the region in the national finals at the NSW State Library on May 3.
