The 27-year-old woman, who has since left Orange, was charged with common assault and resisting police for her offences at 2pm on September 2.
According to police the man was walking along Moad Street carrying bags of his personal belongings, with the woman following him, when officers arrived.
However, when police were speaking with them she became agitated and aggressive towards police and the man, and tried to punch the man.
It's a shame when the victims of domestic violence get into trouble too because they lash out.
- Magistrate David Day
She initially pleaded not guilty to resisting police but was found guilty at a hearing.
However, in Orange Local Court on Monday, magistrate David Day said the woman had been a victim of domestic violence perpetrated by the man.
"[She] is usually the punching bag for him," Mr Day said.
"All the relationship has done in the last nine to 10 months is get [her] into trouble and we know she's the victim of domestic violence perpetrated upon her.
"It's a shame when the victims of domestic violence get into trouble too because they lash out a little bit because they are sick of it."
For the assault, Mr Day gave the woman a six-month community corrections order and he convicted her and gave her a 12-month community release order for resisting police.
