Councillor Scott Munro said he was concerned northern NSW councils' recycling was ending up in landfill "at great cost to the community".
"It's comforting ours is being utilised the right way, but it's something for the state government to ponder," he said.

"If something were to happen to [contractor] Visy nationally or in the state, it would go into landfill."
Cr Munro said "good" plastics needed to be recycled within the state, not exported.
Local Government NSW is currently running the Save Our Recycling campaign, which has called upon the state government to reinvest the $727 million it collects from the waste levy annually into waste management.
