A Cadia spokeswoman said it was part of a consultation process.
"Cadia is conducting consultation with our stakeholders regarding a proposed modification to our project approval. The modification being sought is to deposit tailings in the Cadia Hill Open Pit above the existing approved level," she said.
Cadia Valley Operations approvals and community superintendent Jane Chung will address a meeting of the Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange group at the ELF building at the Orange Showground from 7.30pm.
The Cadia spokeswoman said ECCO was "one of our key stakeholders that we consult with on all our projects."
ECCO president said Cadia had approached his group to present the information.
"Our main concern is what is in the tailings, what chemicals etc," he said.

- Nick King, ECCO president
Mr King said they were hoping to gain information about Cadia's plans for the Cadia Hill pit at the meeting.
"We've had a very good relationship. We've had quite a lot of communication with Cadia," he said.
Mr King said after the presentation there would be a question and answer session.
He said the entry to the meeting was free and it should take about one hour.
Cadia had to use the pit after a collapse in the wall of a tailings dam occurred last year.
