Mr Patterson and wife Fiona started Easy Eaves about six months ago, developing a steel alternative to fibrous cement sheets typically used to seal the eaves between the roof and the exterior walls.
The business was nominated earlier this year at the Australian Construction Awards in the sustainability category.
The idea followed a three-year stay in Canada where similar products were used and Mr Patterson now manufactures the product from his March Street premises.
"I made it fit with the Australian building industry," he said.
He said the industry was years behind the rest of the world in the materials it used, including double glazing windows and steel fascia rather than timber.
"Fibro in the eaves is high maintenance to wash and paint and that can cost $3000 or $4000," he said.
"I'm guaranteeing [my product] for 20 years and you don't have to touch it."
DRUMMING UP GIGS THANKS TO FRESH STICKS
ROBBIE Mortimer's popular wedding band is reaping the benefits of a decision to "expand our sound".
Mr Mortimer and his brother James have been performing at weddings and other functions for about five years, but have added a third musician, drummer Albie Bevan, to their group.
And it's paying off, with the band securing a booking every weekend since the start of February until the end of April.

"It kind of just started as a hobby thing, but I really enjoy doing it," Mr Mortimer said.
"We wanted to expand our sound a little bit so we sourced a local drummer, Albie Bevan.
"He's toured the states and is just a great musician."
Mr Mortimer also performs solo gigs.
