Mr Borsak, in Orange on Saturday to support his candidate Phil Donato, said despite gun use and ownership featuring in the campaigns of both the Nationals and the Labor Party, the issue would not cost his party votes.

"It doesn't worry us; people don't care about hunting,' Mr Borsak said.

"Bush people are more in touch with what's going on in the real world."

Mr Borsak, who received widespread media coverage when he released photographs of himself next to an elephant he had legally hunted, said he'd been a long-term hunter.

"I hunt everything ... I've been hunting in Africa since 1982," he said.

Mr Borsak said in some parts of Africa, including Botswana, elephants were killed for pet meat.

On Friday Mr Donato called the Orange election campaign dirty with candidate posters stolen and defaced and public blow-ups between the candidates' supporters.

Despite Mr Donato's comments, Mr Borsak said the campaign in Orange hadn't been as dirty as it had been at other locations around the state.

Mr Borsak said he was confident the SFF would retain the seat of Orange.

"I'm reasonably relaxed about this seat," he said,

"I think it might go 60/40 our way. Phil is a grass-roots politician and if he's re-elected the electorate won't see any change."
