ORANGE City Council paid its own tribute to the Christchurch shooting by inviting the Muslim community to lead the prayer at Tuesday's meeting.

Regional NSW Islamic Centre president Muhammad Khalid Tufail delivered a prayer in Arabic, before thanking the council and the community for its support since the mosque opened in Peisley Street in 2015.
"It is a very important time for the whole community to stick together, stand together and work together," he said.
"I'm very thankful to every single person who has put flowers at 344 Peisley Street - they are the true representative of love, peace, sympathy, unity, co-operation and respect."

A minute's silence was also held for the 50 people killed during Friday's tragedy.
The council usually invites a different church to send a representative for the prayer each month.
