According to police, the male victim was riding down Summer Street about 8.30pm on May 19 and stopped to chain up his bike outside Dum Dum Dumpling House.
Newport and a co-accused, who cannot be named because he was a child at the time of the offence, walked towards him and Newport told the victim to give him the key to the chain.
The victim instead put the key in his pocket, while a third man tried to de-escalate the situation and left when the two accused ignored him.
Police said the co-accused produced a small knife and pointed it at the victim's stomach, telling him, "give me all your money".

When the victim tried to go inside the restaurant, Newport grabbed his jacket and arms.
When the third man returned, all three left the scene and the victim entered the restaurant, later reporting the incident to police.
The pair were arrested later that night and the knife was found in a bumbag belonging to the co-accused - Newport told police he had been drinking since 10am the same morning and the co-accused confirmed they did not know the victim.
The co-accused was sentenced in Orange Children's Court to 12 months in custody, with a non-parole period of three months in August.
