The response from Orange residents to Friday's attack attack against worshippers at two mosques in New Zealand has been one of solidarity.

Flowers and a children's doll were among the items left next to cards at the entry to the Peisley Street mosque over the weekend, with families and community groups offering apologies on behalf of the nation.

Will Woods dropped off a bouquet of flowers on Saturday afternoon, saying he was particularly disappointed to find out the man responsible for the shooting spree at Christchurch's Al Noor Mosque was an Australian.

Brenton Tarrant from Grafton broadcast his shooting spree live on the internet, with 50 people confirmed killed, and a further 50 injured in the hail of gunfire.

Mr Woods said he was at the Orange mosque because "it's important to show solidarity."

"I see a lot of people have," he said.

On hearing the news of the terrorist attack, Mr Woods said he'd been "just overwhelmingly sad", and his message to Muslims living in Orange was they weren't alone in their grief.

"They're our neighbours," he said, "we're all neighbours".

Members of the Mums 4 Refugees attended the mosque on Saturday to leave a handwritten card and flowers among the already-present tributes.

Convenor of the group Anna Noonan said she wanted Orange Muslims to know the people who committed the "terrible attacks" did not represent the values of the Australian people.

"It's important that people feel there are Australians who support them," she said.

"We stand beside them and are willing to help out in any way we can."
