Short, 32, faced four charges of possessing ammunition without authority, seven charges of making or possessing counterfeit money and six stolen goods charges.

He had been refused bail before the registrar the Thursday prior, but reapplied before magistrate David Day.

Solicitor Mason Manwaring noted his client had been on bail for unrelated matters, but he suffered mental health problems.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Carl Smith said Short failed to show cause for his release.

Mr Day said the case against Short was strong and there had been bail compliance issues in the past.

"There's nothing special or unusual about Mr Short before the court," he said.

Short is yet to enter a plea and will face court via video link later this month. 

A WOMAN who told police she kept a hunting knife for protection has escaped a fine in Orange Local Court.

Brittani Rose Oxley, 23 of Kenna Street, was found with the knife after her car was searched on November 2.

She did not attend court on Monday and was convicted in her absence, with the knife to be forfeited to the Crown.

Magistrate David Day said her explanation of protection was the "wrong answer".

"Unless she was trained by special forces, she wouldn't know how to use it other than to wave it around, have it taken from her and be stabbed herself," he said.
