The Archibald Prize 2018 is free (as are all our exhibitions) and continues until April 10 so there is plenty of time to drop in for a visit or bring friends and family back for another look.
Keen to learn more about the Archibald Prize and what makes a great portrait? ORG director Bradley Hammond will present a free guided tour from 5:30pm on Friday, April 5 as part of ‘Archibald After Hours’ when ORG will remain open until 7pm. Everyone is welcome.
Margaret Loy Pula’s exhibition Anatye is continuing in gallery two until March 24, followed by Angelica Mesiti’s immersive video installation Relay League, which opens on Friday, March 29.
An internationally-celebrated contemporary artist working across video, performance, and installation Mesiti has a deep, ongoing interest in performative modes of communication as a tool for story-telling.
"Calling all, this is our final cry before our eternal silence."
Relay League, a term for a telegraphic transmission from one receiver to the next, takes as its departure point this Morse code message transmitted by the French Navy on January 31, 1997 to signal the imminent demise of this communication method.
Morse code, a system of dot and dash radio signals often utilised as a language of distress at sea, was phased out after 130 years in favour of new digital communications.
Inspired by this final poetic phrase, Mesiti interprets its original dots and dashes through music, choreography, and non-verbal communication.

Join us for the opening of Angelica Mesiti's Relay League from 6pm on Friday, March 29. The exhibition will continue until May 12. ORG is open from 10am-4pm daily and entry is always free.
Angelica Mesiti's Relay League is curated and developed by Artspace, Sydney, and is touring nationally in partnership with Museums and Galleries of NSW.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
The development and presentation of Relay League are supported by commissioning partner the Keir Foundation.
Relay League was produced with the support of CND National de la Danse in Paris and the University of New South Wales Art and Design. It will be accompanied by a book published by Schwartz City and designed by Formist.
