ORANGE City Council may have failed to have the former Lands building bequeathed to the community, but it will still belong to a community organisation after OCTEC purchased the site at auction on Tuesday.

The bidding took place in Sydney where OCTEC bought the property for $2.5 million.
Benchmark Commercial agent Nigel Staniforth said the sale price was consistent with the guide, with up to five buyers interested in the rare site.
"We had the bluestone cottage [in Anson Street] two years ago, but there's only a certain number of these types of properties," he said.
Property NSW wrote to the council on February 25, sticking to its position to put the building up for sale.
Councillor Kevin Duffy commented the department's refusal was "an ordinary effort".
Mayor Reg Kidd, who is also a member of the OCTEC board, said in a statement the purchase ensured continued use by the community.
"This with Croagh Patrick, the Old Town Hall, the bluestone cottage, OCTEC would be the biggest contributor to heritage conservation in Orange," he said.
OCTEC chief executive Andrew McDougall declined to comment.
