At least three students recorded top six places which puts them in contention for the national championships to be held on the Sunshine Coast in early May.
Rory Thornhill of James Sheahan Catholic High School was second in the senior solo event finishing 29 seconds behind the winner.
He backed that up with a win in the Dubbo intraclub triathlon championship last weekend.
Thornhill, who represents NSW at elite level, said he was 'buggered' after the schools championships but it didn't prevent him from completing a series clean sweep, taking the maximum four points in all five Sprint distance events with his win in Dubbo.
In other results at Penrith, Kaitlyn Hinrichsen of Orange High School was third in the intermediate solo event while Sophie Martin of Kinross Wolaroi School was fifth in the junior girls race.
In the relay events Kinross Wolaroi School won the female junior relay by 48 seconds.
James Sheahan won the intermediate male relay event by seven seconds.
