Anderson and Torley fought neck and neck for the first nine kilometres before Anderson used fresh legs to pull away from his rival, who was backing up from winning the half-marathon. 

"He was probably a bit tired after the half so half to give him credit for that, backing up after the half but it was nice to get the win over him," the victorious Anderson said after crossing the line.

"It was nice to have Josh to run with he's also a great runner so it was nice to have a good race."

Anderson finished in 34 minutes, 49 seconds, with Torley finishing 21 seconds behind him in 35.10. 

Torley's younger brother Samuel finished third in the event, three minutes behind his brother in 38.24.

It was an improvement on last year for Anderson, who finished in third behind Torley in his festival debut last year. 

"I feel pretty good, beautiful conditions, nice and sunny, it's really great out there. Bit undulating but you get to see some nice scenery," he said. 

"It was a solid training effort, it's never easy with Josh but it was good. I'm based in Canberra, different squad to Josh but we do lots of running together."

Anderson has several 5km races lined up between now and his next big event, the half marathon at the Canberra Running Festival. 

Hayley Gustard claimed the crown in the women 10km with a time of 36.53, ahead of Paige Campbell (39.25) and Lauren Reid (39.46)

The Newcastle Flyers runner was under the weather and out of her element in the heat but said the atmosphere kept driving her. 

"The atmosphere was great, hearing the crowd sort of motivated yourself before you even started running," she said.

"On the course the marathoners were coming back as we were going out and they were cheering everyone coming the other way so that was probably the best bit about the course."

On her first ever visit to Orange, the start time through her off but said it was "a good course". 

"It was a bit hot, I'm not so used to running so late," she said.

"I'll definitely come back. I've never been to Orange before, I normally do most of my runs out in Newcastle.

"I am a runner who always goes out fast and regrets it later on, I didn't feel the greatest. I did keep up with the boys for the first three or four kilometres but at the turnaround they picked up the pace and left me a bit.

"I was a bit on my own for the last part and that was a bit lonely. I tried to keep hearing the ding on my watch.

"A bit hot, so late and the gravel, two minutes off a PB."

Gustard also claimed the win in the 5km race, finishing in 17:39, while Josh Torley, backed up first in the half marathon and second in the 10km run with a first in the shortest event, running the 5km in 15:41.
