The Sky Blues moved to within five points of league leaders Perth Glory by defeating Adelaide United 2-0 on Friday night.

Corica fielded a starting line-up with six players in their 30s, including debut goalscorer Reza Ghoochanejhad, and the two oldest ran the show.

Alex Wilkinson turned in a characteristically solid shift at the back while Milos Ninkovic played the role of playmaker perfectly at Leichhardt Oval.

The pair of 34-year-olds will soon be joined by Alex Brosque, 35, and Siem de Jong, 30, as the Sky Blues eye a continuation of the club's successful spell under Graham Arnold.

"Apparently we have an old squad," Corica noted wryly after the match.

"Ninko, Wilko. They're the older two and they kept going.

"We didn't have Brosque tonight either and I'm looking forward to having him back and having a headache to see who starts.

"They all deserve plaudits ... (we're) probably the only team to score in every game this year.

"It's fantastic for our group of players and the belief they have to get goals and win games."

While the old brigade left their mark, it was a youngster that left the biggest mark at the picturesque venue.

Cameron Devlin ran towards The Cove, after the 20-year-old scored his first professional goal, with the celebrations resulting in a fence collapsing fans under the weight of the fans. Fortunately no one was seriously injured.

"I thought he was underneath the fence. I'm glad he wasn't because he's not that big," Corica said.

"He brought the house down. That's how much it meant to the Cove. It was great."

For Adelaide, there was defeat but not heartbreak.

"The boys played, in my eyes, a good game for our side," beaten coach Marco Kurz said.

The Reds, who will have defender Michael Jakobsen back against Perth after he missed the Sydney match with a training knock, are winless in four but are not panicking.

"We stay in a good position," Kurz said.

"Our goal and our aim is to reach the finals.

"We're in the place four and for us that's a very good position for a budget as Adelaide.

"I believe in the boys ... they are on the same page as me. We played a good game today.

"I know we need points but if we keep going in the same way I'm sure we'll pick up the points we need."
