Despite leaping out of the blocks, Mick Plummer's Matchfox couldn't match the Greg Ryan-ridden favourite, who led for nearly the whole 1408 metres of the $22,000 feature.
Baker's gelding finished a length and a half ahead of Vicissitudes and over four lengths clear of third-placed Bodice, with Mike Van Gestel's Spicy Mo also finishing ahead of Plummer's gelding.
Meanwhile Garry Lun's Comzig won the second race of the day ahead of Sonia Sharp's Sass'n'twinkle and Trevor Sunderland's Jungle Book. Comzig - a $17 outsider - crossed the line a nose ahead of Sharp's mare, with Gary Portelli-trained $3 favourite Phylave in fifth.
