Eight years ago the HeartKids Cup started with little more than two teams and an ambition to help raise some money for a cause close to Mardi Aplin's heart.

Now, it's a tournament widely regarded as one of the best pre-season competitions across Netball NSW's extensive reaches.
The 2019 edition of the netball competition annually staged in Orange begins on Saturday with 15 teams from across the state converging on Sir Neville Howse Stadium to take part in three divisions of the HeartKids Cup.
Organiser Mardi Aplin said this year's event has again attracted plenty of interest from state level outfits, with Netball NSW sending four rep teams.
The ACT state side will participate in 2019 as well, while teams from Baulkham Hills, UTS and the GWS' development program will take part.
Former Sydney Swifts coach turned GWS head mentor Julie Fitzgerald will be in Orange to help mentor the state sides in action while Aplin said ex-Australian coach Jill McIntosh would also be in attendance.
McIntosh was Australian coach between 1995 and 2003 and her 94 Tests in charge is the most of any national coach.
She's also a member of the Australian Netball Hall of Fame.
The HeartKids sides Aplin nominates for the tournament will this year include some of the region's brightest prospects, with regional talent squad members from Orange, Bathurst and Forbes mixing in amongst some of the Orange Netball Association's best as well.
First pass on Saturday will be at 11.30am with day one wrapping up at 6pm, while Sunday's final is scheduled to start at around 12.30pm.
"We're really lucky to have the calibre of teams we've got coming to Orange," Aplin said.
Entry to the HeartKids Cup is a gold coin donation.
