Mr White, known to most as Whitey, has revived the Whitey’s Pies name and is now based out of The Smoko Shed in Leewood Estate, incidentally the business’s first home 20 years ago.
After some time off travelling and completing odd jobs, Mr White said he was happy to be back doing what he loved.
“It was driving me bonkers,” he said.
The business will be smaller scale than when he ran it from Sale Street – the wholesale arm will not return and he will be in partnership with daughter Billie-Rae White.
“We’re just going to make a few things out of here for the workers,” he said.
DIVERSE OFFERING AT LAKE CANOBOLAS
THE Lakeshore Cafe is now operating at Lake Canobolas thanks to fresh operators and $10,000-worth of renovations from Orange City Council.
Couple Julse Kropp and Chris Brown have been trading for three weeks.
Ms Kropp already owns and runs Cafe Java at the Alpine Stores, while for Mr Brown, it was a career change after selling medical equipment to cardiologists.
“We live across the lake, so we live on one side and work on the other, it’s great,” Ms Kropp said.
Mr Brown said the cafe offered a range of sit-down meals and takeaway food, from fish and chips and hamburgers to protein balls and salads.
Orange City Council replaced the stove top, oven and deep fryer, as well as upgrading some benches, power fittings and plumbing.
TEAHOUSE MUSIC SCENE TO NEW HEIGHTS
TUNES, trivia and games are on the cards for the Mountain Teahouse as it looks bring more people to Mount Canobolas.
The teahouse hosted entertainer James Caulfield earlier this month, which owner Tim Macqueen said attracted a good-sized crowd.
“We have a beautiful little courtyard to the side of our building under a beautiful old oak tree,” he said.
“I think it’s about creating an atmosphere.”
The business is looking to host trivia every third Saturday, plus bingo and other games targeted at older visitors looking for activities.
