The walking tracks, including popular paths to Cathedral Falls and the summit walk, have been officially closed since the fires, with wooden sleepers and metal handrails twisted, burned and charred by the flames which rolled across the mountain in early 2018.

Parks NSW ranger Steve Woodhall said it was exciting to see the final stages of repair work to the tracks go in, with the plan to re-open at the end of February or the start of March.
Eight loads were dropped in seven locations along the 12 kilometres of track to ensure the small crew of less than half a dozen repairing the tracks didn’t have to carry material into the forest, while also removing burned and ruined wood and metal.
There are about 150 steps along the 12 kilometres, with each step two metres long and weighing 10 kilograms, with the most inaccessible points nearly two kilometres from the nearest road.
The replacement of the paths has cost about $110,000 all-up.
Mr Woodhall said flora and fauna on Mount Canobolas have also recovered well, with blackened trees nearly completely covered in green leaves and rare orchids shooting through.
