Councillors voted in favour of the proposal for the prefabricated shed to house the animals at their meeting on Tuesday night.
The facility will provide a temporary home for stray animals, impounding of seized animals and re-homing for those whose owners do not claim them.
MAP: The facility will be located at the northern end of Astill Drive …
It will include capacity to house up to 20 dogs and cats, office space, storage area for the council’s rangers, up to five publicly accessible drop-off cages, a small set of cattle yards and five parking spaces.
The facility will be operational by July and an acoustic report will be completed within six months to ensure acceptable noise levels.
