Firefighters signed on to the job knowing they could be forced to run in to a burning building or contain a backyard blaze.
But asking them to put their lives at risk and extinguish a fire that was deliberately lit is another matter.
Surely if those who are lighting the car fires, many of whom are believed to be young teens, knew how much their actions put firefights at risk, they would think twice about how they get their kicks.
Their actions are attention-seeking and clearly they crave more attention.
Perhaps as a community we need to look at ways to reconnect these young people with their community, including our firefighters.
