Bathurst Wallabies’ mammoth turnout at their home event over the weekend – despite places being filled with Orange’s Tim Guy and Rory Thornhill – has allowed the club to surge ahead on the interclub points tally in the Central West Inter-Club Triathlon Series.

The Orange Piranhas are holding a come and try day on December 3 from 8pm at their Gosling Creek base to get new members into the sport and train ahead of their next home meet on December 17.
The Piranhas are searching for their third straight series title, but Bathurst Wallabies are threatening to quash dreams of a three-peat as the season ticks over the halfway mark.
The Wallabies raked in 145 points on their home track to claim the maximum five interclub points, with Orange’s 89 points enough to claim four points for second, leaving them two behind on the overall tally.
The Wallabies lead the overall tally on 14 points of a maximum 15, with Orange in second on 12 followed by Mudgee (nine), with Dubbo and Cowra on five apiece.
INTER-CLUB STANDINGS:
- Bathurst – 14 points
- Orange – 12 points
- Mudgee – 9 points
- Dubbo – 5 points
- Cowra – 5 points
Consistency has been the key for the Bathurst club this season, taking two first places in the first three meets of the season – at their home track last weekend and again in Mudgee, with picking up points at away meets not typically the Wallabies’ strong point.
The club has often struggled to get numbers travelling to other meets but have had no such issues this season, with good turn-outs to all three meets.
That consistency has been not just in numbers but also in performance, with Nick North and Holly Simmons two at the top of the table every time they race.
While the first meet in Cowra was dominated by Orange, Bathurst still picked up four points for second place despite finishing well behind the Piranha’s 92 points with 47, and came out on top in Mudgee on the back of a massive North win despite the best efforts of Thornhill and Orange gun Lauren Kerwick.
The final two meets of the season will be held over the next two months.
The fourth leg of the series will be held at Gosling Creek on February 17, while clubs then head to Dubbo on March 3, hopefully escaping the scorching summer heat.
The Piranhas will also be holding a come and try day on February 3 at Gosling Creek.
