Police were called to an address on the western part of Icely Road at 2.10am where they found the car alight on the side of the road. 

Central West Police District Inspector Dave Harvey said a group of unknown culprits broke into the vehicle by smashing a window and moved it away from the house before setting it alight. 

Inspector Harvey said while police arrived “within a very short space of time”, the culprits were not at the location when they did. 

He said police didn’t have a description of the culprits, and was appealing to the public for information. 

It follows three cars burned out on Monday morning, two in Orange and one in Canobolas State Forest. 

One of Monday’s ignitions on Maxwell Avenue nearly left a verandah alight after the vehicle rolled down a hill and across the road into a neighbour’s property. 

In an unrelated incident, two dogs caused the death of a sheep at Anson Street School on Sunday. 

Police were called at 7.15am to the school’s animal farm, where two mature Staffordshire Terriers had broken into the sheep enclosure and attacked two animals.

Inspector Harvey said one of the sheep sustained injuries to its limbs and face so it had to be destroyed.

The decision was made with council ranger and school’s animal supervisor. 

In a further incident, police arrested a boy at 4.15pm on Monday after a patrol found “numerous” teenagers inside the fence-line at a quarry on Cedar Street. 

The group was questioned and a 16-year-old boy became abusive towards police. 

He was arrested for abuse, breaching bail conditions and resisting arrest. 

He faced court on Tuesday and was refused bail. He will reappear in court in February.
