What an indictment on the State’s Liberal/National Coalition government that the provision of palliative care in Orange has become a “political football” (CWD, 19 January).

Despite promises to provide palliative care in Orange by mid-January 2019, we are told by a health bureaucrat that the trial is able to commence “before the end of March”.
And when is the State election to be held? – 23 March 2019. What a remarkable coincidence!
The health bureaucrat is quoted as providing the excuse for the delay that the relevant deed of agreement will take considerable time to finalise.
Three months?
If it takes three months to finalise the deed of agreement then the bureaucrats involved should be sacked for incompetence.
It is deplorable that the government is playing with the pain and suffering of those suffering terminal illness for the sake of point scoring to try and win an election.
I would have thought that the government’s handling of this issue is a sure way to lose votes.
The public are not fools.
