One Toyota Hilux utility was set alight in the driveway of a Maxwell Avenue property at 5.20am on Monday.
The owner was woken by the sound of crackling flames and called police and the fire brigade, and then watched on as the vehicle began to roll down the slope of the property, leaning up against a neighbour’s verandah.
The verandah suffered smoke damage and had a supporting pole taken out, but it didn’t catch alight as fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread.
The front room belonged to a child, with the car just metres from where they lay in the early hours of the morning.
The vehicle, which was locked and secured when it was set on fire, was completely destroyed.
That fire followed another car burned in the driveway of a Warrendine Street address, which left a green Holden Barina a charred wreck.
The arson occurred at 4.20am Monday, with the owner woken by the sound of flames.
She called police and fire crews who stopped the fire from spreading, but were unable to save the vehicle, which had been locked and secured at the time it was set alight.
Earlier on Monday morning a car was found burned-out in Canobolas State forest.
Police and the Rural Fire Service were called to the car, a white Hyundai Excel, which had been found alight.
The car was extinguished and destroyed, and the owner is yet to contact police. It wasn’t reported stolen as of 9am on Monday.
Central West Police District Inspector Dave Harvey said police are investigating all three incidents and he encouraged people to come forward if they had information.
