The Wallabies centre is off contract beyond 2019 and, despite his leadership promotion on Wednesday, he hasn't ruled out a big-money overseas move once that expires.

Queensland battled through a 6-10 season in Brad Thorn's first season in charge, a campaign not helped by off-season controversies, injury and suspensions.

And they did it with a fresh-faced squad that leant heavily on the likes of exciting back Jordan Petaia, No.10 Hamish Stewart, halfback Moses Sorovi and rampaging prop Taniela Tupou, who were all aged between 18 and 22.

At one stage there were 11 players aged 21 or under in the game-day squad and Kerevi is sure that exposure will fast track their journey to another Super Rugby title.

"I'm just focusing on what's in front of me at the moment and that's here and now," Kerevi replied, when asked of his plans beyond 2019.

"I want to win a Super Rugby title and I want to win it with these boys here.

"I believe it can happen (this year). It's a young team, stepping up and pushing the boundaries."

Thorn, who won 17 major trophies in rugby union and league before retiring at 40, was more cautious when asked for his predictions.

"If you know anything about me, I love winning titles," he said.

"What's the point of doing all the work if you don't have something inside you that wants to be there in that last game?

"So we're pretty driven but on the other side of that, if you know me, I don't like talking stuff up so we'll just quietly go to work."

The Reds will play the Melbourne Rebels and the Chiefs in trial games across the next fortnight before a first-round bye when the season commences in mid-February.
