Our overworked and under resourced police doing an amazing job with what they've got, but the fact is we need more of them. Statistics reveal that Orange has the lowest police-to-population ratio in NSW!
Since late 2017 I have worked side-by-side with the Orange branch of the Police Association of NSW (PANSW) to secure additional police resources.
I have a face-to-face meeting with Police Commissioner next month. I’ve advised the Commissioner that I’ll be requesting he allocate 14 more police for Orange from the resource pool of 1,500.
Early last year I successfully negotiated the allocation of four additional police as part of the NSW Police Force’s questionable “Re-Engineering” policy.
My public campaigning and political pressure on the NSW Government weighed significantly into the Premier’s reluctant announcement of an additional 1,500 police state-wide, commencing 1st July 2019.
On review of longer term stats collated by Police Association, they've discovered they now need an additional 14 police to bring the number in the Orange ranks to the state average of police-to-population ratio.
I have a face-to-face meeting with Police Commissioner next month. I’ve advised the Commissioner that I’ll be requesting he allocate 14 more police for Orange from the resource pool of 1,500. I've also advised I will be requesting he establish a Regional Enforcement Squad in Orange and base a drug dog and handler from here, too.
Having been a police officer for more than two decades prior to being elected, I am committed to supporting the brave men and women in blue who are in need of increased resources. Equally, I am committed to seeing that sufficient police resources are secured to protect our community.
Phil Donato MP, Member for Orange.
