Cabonne Council has responded by changing its treatment processes after the discovery of the blooms in Molong Creek Dam.
A council spokesman said the algal blooms were caused by high temperatures and the declining level of the dam.
“Residents may notice some discolouration of the town water supply along with a change in taste and odour,” he said.
“However, these are due to the water treatment process to ensure Molong’s water meets health standards required.”
With the hot weather and ongoing drought placing pressure on the town’s water treatment process, councils is asking Molong residents to adhere to water restrictions and take water saving measures.
Temperatures of up to 39 degrees are forecast for later in the week.
